No matter how it\u2019s interpreted, if a person finds someone else\u2019s behaviour offensive or it makes them feel intimidated or humiliated, then it\u2019s harassment. Harassment in the workplace has unfortunately been happening for as long as we can remember. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-examples-of-harassment-at-work\">Examples of harassment at work <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Physical harassment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discriminatory harassment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sexual harassment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal harassment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Power harassment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Psychological harassment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Retaliation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cyberbullying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Read more: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whistlelink.com\/cs\/blog\/pripady-pochybeni-na-pracovisti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">7 examples of workplace misconduct<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nowadays, companies are expected be proactive in countering it. In many countries, employers have a legal responsibility to provide a safe and harassment-free environment for its employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-protect-employees-from-workplace-harassment\">How to protect employees from workplace harassment <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> Be <strong>proactive and listen<\/strong> \u2013 have regular, one-on-one sessions where you ask how your employees are doing. Hold group discussions as well, so that harassment isn\u2019t a taboo topic.<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide <strong>training<\/strong> on harassment. Make sure the training includes information about what it is, what\u2019s not tolerated in the workplace, what to do as a witness of harassment and what happens to those who are harassing others.<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Get f<strong>eedback<\/strong> &#8211; Hold department and company-wide meetings asking how the company deals with complaints. This way, people contribute to having the right procedures in place.<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a<strong> thorough policy,<\/strong> that all employees can access. Harassment is most likely to be included in a wider company policy, such as ethics or code of conduct. The policy should detail how to report harassment, such as through a whistleblowing channel (see #6), and how the information will be handled.<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Get<\/strong> <strong>legal advice<\/strong> on your policy. Make sure it has the approval of your legal department, and\/or contact your local employment department for advice.<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implement a secure <strong>reporting channel<\/strong>, such as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whistlelink.com\/cs\/produkt\/\">whistleblowing system<\/a>, through which you encourage employees to report harassment in a confidential way.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:26px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reading tip: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whistlelink.com\/cs\/blog\/key-factors-to-make-your-whistleblowing-system-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Key factors to make your whistleblowing system work<\/a><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"7\">\n<li><strong>Respond swiftly<\/strong> &#8211; Take the employee seriously and document the conversation, and make sure to follow up after any investigations. Whistleblowing systems can help organisations coordinate this.&nbsp;<br><br><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"8\">\n<li><strong>Protect employees from retaliation &#8211; <\/strong>have a special clause in your policy that encourages employees to come forward because their identity can remain hidden.
